Something to think about during the Holiday season...

So as some of you may know I somewhat recently started a new job! I work as a Promotions Coordinator for a marketing/promotions company that mainly handles contests and sweepstakes. Its pretty cool. My main duties at this company are handling most of the winner notification for a lot of the promotions that we do. This basically means that I get to call winners and send out winner notification letters and tell them that they won! Most of the people are really happy and grateful that they have won so it's a pretty fun gig.
There was a promotion for a wedding contest that we are doing. Couples who are engaged to get married had to send in a few minute video describing why they deserve the wedding of their dreams. The people who win will get $10,000 towards their dream wedding plus a 2 hour consultation with David Tutera who does that wedding show on the WE channel.
There is a video of this couple who should win hands down and if they do not it will be a real shame. The woman has a rare form of ovarian cancer making it basically impossible for her to ever have children. On top of that her father recently has a massive heart attack that left him a vegetable basically which has been really difficult for her entire family.
Despite these set backs, the woman was so positive and optimistic in her video. She was so pretty and her husband is adorable and they were just so excited to even be making this video at all. They didnt talk about how broke they were, or how depressing their lives are or anything like that. They really just wanted to send the message out to people that even though some bad things in your life may happen, you need to look on the bright side and know that in the end everything will come together and be ok.
I thought that this was such a fantastic message to send and they had such a positive outlook on life. A lot of the other contestants that entered the same contest only mentioned how broke they were and basically how desperate they were to win the money so they could have a big beautiful wedding. No one else really mentioned anything positive or meaningful.
My point in all of this is that I think people should really think more about those that are truly less fortunate than us. Especially around this time of year when a lot of the things we're all thinking about are parties, money, and presents. It may seem like those are the really important things right now but they're not. So I think that everyone, at least for one day, should try to put themselves in someone elses shoes and try to think of others. I know I will.
